The start of the year may not seem good in the city as covid 19 confirmed cases surges to its all time high since the pandemic occurred.
The city government was alarmed by the unprecedented increase number of positive cases of Covid 19 although it was expected due to the holiday break that gathering of people may happen.
The highest t number so far recorded was on January 8, 2021 with 26 positive cases and consecutively followed on January 9, 11 and 16 , 2021 with 13, 11, and 16 new confirmed cases respectively comparing for last year’s data of single digit number cases reported.
In a meeting of the Covid 19 Council, it was reported by the City Health Office that the sudden increase of reported cases was due to the celebration of holiday season where a gathering was made like parties, reunion, etc, without observing the health safety protocols , hence, a community transmission is taking part within the city.
All of this cases was identified in the areas of barangays District 1, District 3 and San Fermin of Poblacion areas.
With this development, Mayor Bernard Dy gave an order through a zoom conference to the Covid 19 Council to strictly implement the Executive Order No 04-2021 and intensify arrest on violators.
Prior to this, a calibrated lockdown was implemented on some parts of the barangays affected where movement was strictly observed.
The City Health Office also conducted a massive contact tracing to all those who had a close contact with the patients to control the spread of the disease
Apart from this, a mobile public address was again roaming around the city reminding the public to be more aware on the effect of not following the health safety protocol.
