CAUAYAN CITYHOOD CELEBRATION GOES VIRTUAL

Cauayan City continues to celebrate its 20th  cityhood anniversary despite time constraints caused by the covid 19 pandemics.

On the occasion of the cityhood anniversary, Mayor Bernard Dy shared his excitement to all Proud Cauayeños, “ Ikinalulugod ko po na this year is a very historical and momentous event as we celebrate our momentous 20th  year anniversary, platinum anniversary, and I would hope all of us can gain knowledge on what Smart and Sustainable city are all about. We have a roster of wonderful speakers, experts na mapapaliwanagan tayo kung ano ang ini-embark natin na new milestone as we celebrate 20th anniversary of the City of Cauayan”. Mayor Dy remarked.

This year carries the theme of  “Katuparan ng Labing-pitong Hamon sa Bawat Cauayeño”.

Various programs were successfully presented through virtual using social media platforms with the local cable network – CMD Cable for the people to have the opportunity to be one in the celebration.

It started with a Thanksgiving Mass offering given by different religious groups in the city followed by the inauguration of the BIRD-C or the Business Intelligence for Research and Development -Center at Isabela State University-Cauayan which was attended by some key personalities from ISU, DOST, and LGU Cauayan.  A symposium was held with no less than the Secretary of Department of Science and Technology Prof Fortunato Dela Pena who in his message of support extended commendation to the people behind the project.

The afternoon event also showcased the culmination of the Women’s Month celebration followed by a webinar on Smarter and Sustainable Cities wherein the participants/ attendees have able to learn the pilot program of the city government as the first smarter city of the Philippines through the given lectures by the notable speakers with no less than the President of ISU Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, DOST Regional Director Sancho Mabborang, and Mayor Bernard Faustino M. Dy to name a few.

The evening affair was even more exciting as the city government recognized the 2021 Outstanding Proud Cauayeños who made outstanding services worthy of emulation for their contribution in the LGU program on the 17 Sustainable Goals. The awardees are:

              Goal 1 – (No to Poverty) –  Rotary Club of Cauayan

              Goal 2 – (Zero Hunger)  – Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry

              Goal 3 – (Good Health and Well-Being) – Operation Smile initiated by Ms. Jocelyn Pua

              Goal 4 – (Quality Education)- Daisy G. Romero

              Goal 5 – (Gender Equality) Bamboo United Gay Association Inc ( BUGAI)

              Goal 7 – (Affordable and Clean Energy) Barangay Buena Suerte

              Goal 8 – (Decent Work and Economic Growth) Otep’s Tinuno

              Goal 9 – (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) – Isabela State University

              Goal 10 – (Reduced Inequality) – Cauayan City Government Employees MPC

              Goal 11 – (Sustainable Cities and Communities)- Barangay Cabaruan

              Goal 12 – (Responsible Consumption and Production) Villa Luna Multi Purpose Cooperative

              Goal 13 – (Climate Action) Barangay Gappal

              Goal 14 – (Life Below Water) Barangay Carabbatan Chica

              Goal 15 – (Life on Land) Barangay Villa Concepcion

              Goal 16 – (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) Barangay District 2

              Goal 17 – (Partnership for the Goals)  Junior Chamber International- Cauayan Bamboo

The city government likewise recognized 3 Outstanding Cauayeños who have a big contribution in creating a positive impact in the city because of their talent, achievements,  commitment, and service to humanity to the following; Dr. Angel Angelito Ariel Garcia as a frontline doctor, Edrian Paul Sales Liao a student scholar at Duke University in the USA for Aerospace Engineering, and Hon. Bagnos Maximo Sr, formerly City Councilor and LGU City Administrator.

Also during the night affair was a special time for LGU employees sponsored by the City Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) under the leadership of Ms. Sherry Ann Balmaceda in giving recognition to employees who have rendered loyalty service dubbed as STAR ( Servants That Are Remarkable) Awards.

Special Recognition was also given to employees for their contributions as frontliners as Real Life Servant  Heroes Awardees.

The celebration was ended with the turn-over of the continuation of activities to the Director-General of the 2021 Gawagaway- yan Festival, Mr. Michael De Guzman for the kick-off of the  2-week long festival, again on the virtual celebration as the province is under General Community Quarantine.
